Collaborative, Focused, & Agile

IMCE combines research, systems thinking, educational design, and practical implementation to develop practical responses to the emerging psychological and educational challenges of the Age of Intelligence.

Strategic Focus

Our work is organized around four clear strategic priorities. Together, they translate a systems-thinking approach into measurable, real-world outputs, ensuring research is matched by immediate, practical alternatives.

This means practical tools, pilot programmes, public education, research, and institutional engagement, all designed to evolve through feedback, evidence, and lived application. Our aim is not simply to produce intellectually sound ideas, but useful responses that can be tested, improved, and carried into the lives of the people they are intended to serve.

Building Educational Frameworks

Develop educational frameworks, workshops, guides, classroom resources, and self-training materials that help young people, parents, teachers, and schools build awareness, discernment, resilience, and agency.

Responding to Emerging Challenges

Identify and explain the psychological, educational, and cultural pressures created by synthetic influence, attention capture, cognitive outsourcing, synthetic authority, and AI-mediated life.

Ensuring Non-Extractive Delivery

Build and support delivery routes that reflect IMCE’s values: useful, accessible, privacy-respecting, and free from manipulative engagement models or unnecessary data extraction.

Increasing Public Understanding

Raise awareness of Metacognitive Education and the need to prepare the mind for the Age of Intelligence through publications, research outputs, talks, media, campaigns, and public resources.

Principles

Human development is shaped by the relationship between biology, education, technology, culture, and society, so meaningful responses must be integrated, grounded in lived experience, and developed through practice.

Our work is guided by three core principles:

1. Human-Centred Design

We begin with the realities of experience rather than the capabilities of technology. Our educational frameworks are designed to strengthen the uniquely human capacities to enable people to flourish: awareness, discernment, resilience, agency, relationship, and meaning.

2. Research Through Practice

We believe meaningful educational innovation emerges through practice. Ideas are translated into frameworks, tested in real educational settings, observed, evaluated, and continually refined through experience and evidence.

3. Open Collaboration

We actively seek collaboration across education, psychology, philosophy, technology, design, and the wider research community, recognising that meaningful progress emerges through shared knowledge and diverse perspectives.
